So, first of all, the subscription idea is freaking awesome!

Second, I wonder how the subscription is going to work with One and Two coming out at the same time.

Scenario: One and Two come out January 2009 (for simplicity’s sake, but I hope it drops sooner!). Three would be due out April 2009. July 2009 for Four, October 2009 for Five. That is one subscription period, but it is five sets, with Six coming out January 2010.

How is this going to work? Are the initial subscriptions going to be 9 months, or are subscriptions for four sets, regardless of the release schedule? Or MAYBE…everyone who’s name starts with an S gets five sets in their first subscription… :)

Since there’s no Black Beauty associated with One, and a subscription guarantees you a Black Beauty for each expansion, i would imagine that One will be exempt from subscriptions and it’ll all kick off from Two onwards. Just pure supposition, based on the BBs.

But that means we’re paying full whack for One…

Just so everyone knows, my name when the final site goes up is gonna be SarthSMaster. :P

Seriously though, Chibri’s theory sounds reasonable. The only other conclusion I can draw is that Decipher is simply gonna give players some slack, and include One as an additional set with each player’s very first subscription. Since One is, after all, going to be available forever and ever.

I’m expecting the same as Chibri. From the original details on subscriptions it sounds like they aren’t going to be available from day 1 anyway, so they might not even start with set two.

And I’d expect that whenever you take up the subscription you’ll just get the next 4 available sets. It’s not likely to be on a flat annual basis (i.e. you get all the sets for 2009, even if you subscribe in October) if it’s run anything like a magazine subscription.

I’m feeling fairly confident that it will be run like a magazine susbscription. It would be stupid otherwise.

My $0.02 on this issue again, If you want to have a successful mentoring situation, you want to PUSH a subscription. The longer they’re buying, the more cash in your paypal.

Avatar Catabre 1,836 post(s)

That’s kind of self-evident.

Avatar Wampa_Dan 5,137 post(s)

I would expect it to be like a magazine subscription as well. I like it because I no longer have to worry remembering to pre-order, or any of that jazz. I put my money down once and my cards come right to more door all year! Seriously how great is that!?

Avatar Catabre 1,836 post(s)

Its great, except when you mightnot be able to afford it.

Avatar Wampa_Dan 5,137 post(s)

Get enough people that can afford it to buy subscriptions until yours basically is free… :)

Avatar Catabre 1,836 post(s)

That’s my goal. I hope there is pre-ordering because that is what I’m trying to do.

Avatar Altarvo 718 post(s)

The problem is, if you wait it could get really lame. Example:

You: I highly recommend the subscriptions; they’re awesome and affordable.

Potential Player: Wow, yeah! Is that what you have?

You: Uh, no. I’m waiting for you to buy it so I can afford mine.

PP: You didn’t even get one?

You: Oh, I will, just after you and nine of your friends do.

PP: I see…maybe I’ll wait until I get ten people signed up…

And so on. I really don’t want to have a conversation like that. I guess you could solve this little problem by lying early on in the conversation, but that’s not cool. Perhaps best to just bite the bullet at the start and count on doing well at “selling” the subscriptions.

Avatar Sweet_Stuff 1,164 post(s)

no, it would go more like this:

You: I highly recommend the subscriptions; they’re awesome and affordable.

Potential Player: Wow, yeah! Is that what you have?

You: I don’t really have money right now, otherwise I would get one.

PP: Ok, I have $300 just lying around, so might as well. :|

they don’t have enough emoticons on this sight.

Avatar SmokeytheBear 2,674 post(s)

Yeah umm I don’t think so Sweet_Stuff. :D

I love the way you’re looking at this optimistically, but I think Altarvo’s is more likely, and besides… who do you know that has $300 laying around? Better yet, who that has $300 laying around is going to throw it blindly at a game recommended by somebody who didn’t even buy it? Unless you live in Beverly Hills… I find this improbable. :P

Avatar Altarvo 718 post(s)

@ Sweet_Stuff

Yeah, I see your point. I really hope it would go that way, but I would much rather be able to simply say that I have one. Right now both my wife and I are looking for work, so my odds are pretty low.

Avatar Kempeth 117 post(s)

Or you could see it like this. Your proteges don’t pay for the current subscribtion but for the next one…

Avatar Sweet_Stuff 1,164 post(s)

@smokey and altarvo

I was mostly kidding, but it is an optimistic viewpoint. I do know someone who has $300 lying around, but he sure aint spending it on a card game. Like I said, they don’t do emoticons well enough yet, I was trying to do a skeptical face. sorta.

Avatar Catabre 1,836 post(s)

Point taken Alt, it would be kind of awkard. :-S

Avatar Wampa_Dan 5,137 post(s)

This whole thing could be solved by lying your backside off! :p

Avatar Altarvo 718 post(s)

Do I have a subscription? Buddy, I’ve got three! :P

Avatar SmokeytheBear 2,674 post(s)

Hey I might get 2. Seriously, couldn’t hurt to have a deck or two to spare that’s as good as your normal one. Never know when you’ll here “Yeah sounds cool, but I’d like to play it before I spend a bunch of money…”

Avatar Catabre 1,836 post(s)

In that case give them characters you don’t like with some cards. I would think you’d have plenty of extras if you had a subscription.

Avatar AlphaCenturion 2,384 post(s)

If your main deck is hero (or villain), then you build a deck that’s villain (or hero) for anyone who wants to try it out.

A subscription will get you all the cards, and since you can only build a deck with half of them (whichever side you choose), use the other half for decks for friends to learn to play.

Avatar Saej 37 post(s)

If I end up getting enough people under me, I plan on getting two subscriptions. One for me, and one to make decent decks to give away. Think of it…you could make eight ‘ok’ decks. If that gets you eight people signed up, you need only two more people to get enough for ANOTHER subscription!

Avatar Catabre 1,836 post(s)

I might get 2 if I have enough money. But I doubt I’ll make that much money. :-|
