I was going through my SWCCG cards yesterday and was quite happy to find all my autographed cards. Premiere Darth Vader signed by David Prowse. Cloud City Lando signed by Billy Dee Williams. Wicket signed by Warwick Davis…etc. I remember back in the day, D made a tournament rule for autographed cards (Power +3 I think it was), which I thought was awesome. What does everyone think would be a good bonus for autographed FK character cards? Health +3? Generate Energy of your choice?
OR
Similar idea: D could randomly insert autographed cards into the kilos. Of course, the same “collectability” arguments from the Foil Cards thread apply, but I think autographed cards are cooler than foil.

That sounds more like a Black Beauty thing to me. The kilos should just contain the cards, so that you’re not opening box after box after box looking for the autographed characters.

But who would autograph Kamina’s card? His voice actor? His artist(s)? The creator of TTGL?

I would imagine, it would be his English VA. Since that is how it works with all existing anime-based games that include autographed cards – or, as we trendy people like to call them, “sigs.”

Assuming they don’t bastardize his dub though. Personally I’d rather get the japananese VA’s autoigraph anyway.

I dunno, but I’d say the creator would be the golden ticket there…

They did that with Inuyasha, and it worked pretty well. But I’d personally rather have the English VA for the character, as long as the dub isn’t obscenely bad. Death Note is one of my favorite all-time translations, such that you don’t even need to be used to anime to enjoy its dub. “I’ll take a potato chip…and EAT IT!!” Best delivery ever.

Given the way Decipher is focusing on the collector as well as the player, and that any collector has the option to get all the cards if they wish (the subscription), I’d be willing to bet that autographed cards go one of two ways. Either we get lucky, and some Black Beauty stuff is autographed by head Decipherians, or you get lucky, and hunt down and harass the VA you want, and convince them to autograph the card. (shoot, just find them at a Con somewhere)
Autographed cards will either be uber-common, or they’ll hurt the chance of me collecting one. It just doesn’t work too well with Fight Klub.

I think that would be pretty cool, to have signed cards in with the kilos… maybe not right off, but I would enjoy that better than having foil cards really.

The question is, if they came in packs of sorts (kilos or otherwise) would they come with a Certificate of Authenticity? I know autograph collectors are really uptight about those these days, and probably for good reason.

Hm, but then I couldn’t keep signing things as Leonard Nimoy…

You can still sign em, just find more gullible people to sell em to :-)

At GoodWill I was looking through the Star Trek books that they had, and I saw one that had some lines on the cover that caught the light a little. I opened it up and it read:
“He who is patient – obtains.” -George Takei
I was pretty pumped, and bought it for a couple of bucks. I’m not sure how authentic it is, but the signature is a decent forgery if it isn’t genuine.

Signed cards would make great prize support for tournaments. Giving those cards extra power in the game? No. That would give a big advantage to people who live in So. Cal. I would think.

If you gave extra power to autographed cards, how would you know whether or not someone just scribbled on a card with a Sharpie to get an extra boost?

Forging autographs? Simple solution, just keep a database of celebrity signatures for Tournament Directors. I don’t think so.

Another, VERY simple way to handle this would be to create a separate card template with a white box for the signature, at the top or bottom of the textbox. Kind of seems like a no-brainer. And since they would have the same gameplay as regular cards, I don’t see why they couldn’t just be some extra-lucky item to find in your Black Beauty.

Autographed cards will either be ridiculously common (because everyone can get to one), or will only belong to those that win tourneys or go to big cons, and thus actually meet the person to get them to sign the card.
It can’t be an “extra-lucky item” to find, because it will either A) be in EVERY Black Beauty, meaning everyone has one, or B) it will go against their model of “everyone can have every card” that they’ve pushed so far. I mean, there’s no point in making it a rare pull if I’m going to get one with my subscription anyways.

In that case I’d want to see them be tournament and con promotions, because IMO it would be ridiculously stupid to see everyone and their dog playing with autographed cards. But perhaps that’s because I’m used to autographs being a special thing. In short, I’d want sigs to either be hard to get, or not be in the game at all.

I think having “weighted” autographed cards would kind of cheapen them. Whereas it is always kind of unique if you went to the trouble to get one; as opposed to everybody having them just to get extra powers… So basically I’m with Marth.

I agree, they should be special. But you can’t make them a “rare-pull” special, because then you either cheapen their value with the subscription, or cheat the subscription customers.
That said, the logical result is to hunt down the proper people at cons for signatures. Nationals/Internationals (that is, if we get Official Decipher Tourneys) should try to get these types of people there, and maybe they could sell autographs. (or be paid to give them out for free)
I’d much rather have to go get him to sign my card, because then he is signing it FOR ME. As opposed to some random draw where he just scribble down his sig to make more money.

I wouldn’t mind seeing some autographed inserts. I am first and foremost a player, and having people auto these cards would be a nice aspect for people who like to collect. I wouldn’t mind pulling an auto card, I loved making foil decks or decks with all german cards and stuff like that. Some people just like to collect everything, so that would give them incentive to buy more, and if my customers(? mentees, gang members, wtf are we calling them?) want to buy more kilos to complete their auto Fight Klub collection then I’m all for it. Anything that helps Decipher (and us) make more money and keep this game alive is great for me.
You can always take a regular card and have someone sign it at a Con, and that will of course be more special to you because it was personally signed for you, but I like the insert cards because they’re official and they’re a limited special thing that makes your official cards stand out. As long as it has some denotation on it that states it’s an official auto (maybe a gold stamp or something) we wouldn’t need a COA.
So I’m gonna play regardless, and love it, but if I can collect some special cards as well I’m all for it.
