I know the discussion about the retail and “brick backbone” of card game sales has already been dried to on this forum, but an article that I haven’t seen that needs to be presented:
Whenever a new game with potential comes into the market, I generally consider adding it to my singles inventory.
Do you think the online singles market will be huge for FK because any players will already be buying things online? Or do you think the singles market will be weaker for whichever other reason? Thanks

You mean like, opening a Kilo and selling the cards 1 at a time, right?
I’m not sure if it will be HUGE, but it would DEFINITELY help the “Rares” market. 3 kilos gives you 30 rares. You ought to have at least doubles of every uncommon, and a handful of every common. But given that there are 30 rares per set, you may have some repeats. You have all the rares you need to TRADE for a full set, however. Considering there is only 1 of each rare per deck, any doubles you have of a rare are free for trade for rares you don’t have.
Being able to exchange rares with people (buy/sell or even trades) online will almost certainly be necessary. It would help people with fewer players in their area complete sets without buying extra kilos and “hoping” to pull that one rare they need in the 10 they get in the kilo.
Now, you might want to exchange rares for only rares of that set. (so you don’t get people with set 3 trading all their rares for ones in set 2, and then guys who want set 2 can’t get their rares, because only set 3 is available) If the rare you want isn’t available, you wait until a guy with an extra wants one of the rares that IS available.
So yes, the Single Rares market (especially even rare-to-rare trading) is very likely to be a hit.
Otherwise, not so much. Unless the people buying cards (singles or handfuls) are buying them because they don’t want to buy from Decipher. (because they need a Credit Card number to sign up with Decipher, where with you they could use a Visa Gift Card or whatever)

I know that I’m going to want to have single cards available at nearby shops. It’d be really convenient.

Do you mean you sell single cards, or sell cards to singles?

I hope he meant the first, or my entire post was worthless. q.q
Maybe he meant selling singles to singles? Well, I think recruiting them and having them buy their own cards is the best way to go there.
I just had a mental image of one of those “speed date” things. Except it takes 15 minutes. You play a Fight Klub match, and talk while you play. Wouldn’t that be utter epic AND fail at the SAME TIME?

Dude, I’m on the singles… wait. Right. not THAT kind of singles.
Uh, it really depends. If we make the foolish assumption that people will buy 3 kilos and trade to get their set, then the only reason a singles market would come up would be because people want to build more than one deck using a given rare.

I would rather see my local shops put the energy into organizing/allowing-us-to-organize tournaments than selling singles. If you’re going to spend the gas to get to the store, buy the card, pay the taxes, and then drive home, you might as well just buy another kilo, or get a rare off a friend for $5.

The last several responses were about “Singles” as in “Single people, who are not dating or married to anyone”.
That’s what rhett meant earlier, was selling cards to single people, and it derailed from there.
So far, we’ve learned that commons and uncommons will be fixed. You will get 1 of every uncommon in a kilo, 2 of every common. Then you get 10 rares, out of the 30. Since these are random, you might not get all 30 different rares over 3 kilos. But considering that you only need 1 of any given rare (only 1 rare per deck, only 1 rare for your collection), any duplicates you DO get can be traded.
Pretty much, the only single cards ANYONE will buy are rares they don’t already have. And given the setup, they’ll probably only do that if they can’t trade. The system is designed so that you can make fair trades for any rare card you don’t have, to keep you from buying tons more cards to hunt that one rare.
All in all, I think the ONLY people who will buy enough Single Cards for you to make a profit off of are the people who refuse to buy cards online. And then you’re going to do better just to sell them a straight kilo, instead of cutting it up into singles.
Honestly, this game is not meant for the store owner to sell cards. It is meant for you to sign up as a Connector, recruit people, and rack in the 5% without having to do anything other than advertise. Then, if you can manage it, to hold tournaments and events for the people that play. (if you really want to, you can charge admission to these, to partially pay for the prize, if any, and to attempt to make some more direct profit)

The problem I have with this statement ‘The system is designed so that you can make fair trades for any rare card you don’t have, to keep you from buying tons more cards to hunt that one rare.’
As with other CCGs/TCGs, once a popular deck archetype gets ‘hot’ and successful, key cards to that deck will be in demand. Sure, you might only need 1 card in each deck. If a ‘hot’ deck works with 8 rares, you’ll have to shell out big $$$ for these cards. The only difference is that you don’t pay for multiples. There will be a market for singles for sure.

I intend to get in on a market this, I’ll definitely use it to my advantage to get rares that I’m missing.

It’s not a real number, as indicated by the 555. I’m surprised you guys have never seen those singles commercials, which is what I was referring to. Watch more television.
