Hey, I made myself some buisness-like cards using the image of the door from page 2, posting my handle in there and adding a bit about the game above the door on the card. Then I realized this might be copyright infringment or something using that image, so I thought I’d ask the higher ups at Decipher before I distributed any. They’re just simple things, home made. What do you think about this idea? Good to go or not?

Avatar ChaosChild 1,342 post(s)

Good question. I’ve done the same thing, using the image from the drop card (not printed them out yet, was going to wait til I had something to demo). I never stopped to think that this could be a copyright issue, especially since I’d be using it to promote the game.

Avatar AlphaCenturion 2,387 post(s)

Considering you are promoting THEIR game, there’s likely not going to be much of a problem.

That said, I’m going to be doing the same thing (don’t want people to forget how to spell “Centurion” and give up and find another Mentor, lol), just without the picture. Does it NEED a picture?

From reading the agreements a while back i think I remember them saying that you are not permitted to use any logo’s etc. but the door picture is probably not copyrighted so you’re probably okay.

In the new website they will have specific images and such for our use so they probably want you to hold off until the new site.

Idea: Can we recruit forum members to make a kind of “freelance” Fight Klub image? I imagine that a guy that looks like he can fight, and is beckoning to the viewer would make a good image. Like “hey you, come fight with us”. I’m sure someone here can do an image, and I would, but it would take until set 4 for me to get a good one done…

I kind of like the fist icon they have, reminds me of the NIN resistance flag. I kind of like the idea of a revolution, so I would recommend whatever someone did would be to promote the revolution.

Avatar ChaosChild 1,342 post(s)

The fist icon is great, and it’s on both the door picture and the back of the drop card so I’d imagine Blaiser is already using it and I know I am.

And no, we don’t really NEED a picture, but it looks better with one. Product identity and all that.

Maybe we could find a way to make business cards the size of a playing card. Like, have The Drop on one side, your info on the other, but make it fit in a clear playing card sleeve. It would be much cooler to say “here’s my card”, and give them something that looks/feels like a playing card.

I think it would be great if D did something along the lines of an idea previously mentioned. Make some sort of card for the Mentors to give out to players, it has information on it, but it’s also a playable card.

but the door picture is probably not copyrighted so you’re probably okay.

Everything that is published in any way, shape or form is copyrighted by the very act of publishing it, unless the publisher expressively give up the rights by saying so. Now, I don’t think Decipher will mind much, but you should never assume something like this. :)

Avatar Wampa_Dan 5,137 post(s)

I really only did this so I would have the most recent post on every…single…board, but I will say I do like the idea of business cards. Maybe D could even sell them to their mentors as a promo item with gang insignia, handle etc…

Which is why an answer of some kind would be nice.

Like I said, I’m not printing anything out until I have something to demo to people. Hopefully by then the sample artwork Warren mentioned will be available and we’ll have some guidelines on how we’re allowed to use it.

Avatar Wampa_Dan 5,137 post(s)

Yes, it’s a shame the moderators aren’t around more regularly to answer questions. I think at the least it’d be good for Decipher to allow certain images to be used for promotional purposes by players i.e. posters, flyers, websites, and the aforementioned business cards…

Avatar RogueMoon 70 post(s)

Well, as soon as we’re allowed to use images on the web as a whole and edit them as we like, I’m going to make a few simple banners for other forums I’m on and link the images to whereever it is that anyone signing up under me needs to go.

This is not posted anywhere but my private (and locked) photobucket account, but this is what I am currently planning on using:

Im using a similar idea to reach player :)

Avatar Wampa_Dan 5,137 post(s)

@RogueMoon That is a good idea, hopefully it will be allowed…

Avatar AbsoluteZero 35 post(s)

i don’t see any problems that anyone will have with it. i personally was just planning to carry a sharpie and some spare commons and write my mentor name on the back or something.
unoriginal, but it works >.>

Avatar ChaosChild 1,342 post(s)

That’s a nice idea, but I know what my handwriting’s like. Hence having something printed would be good.

Avatar Altarvo 718 post(s)

@ ChaosChild

Yeah, you’d probably get someone making handles that look like how you write your name—they’d end up with a boatload of mentees (is that the word we’re using?), and you’d be wondering where they all went. :-P

Avatar Wampa_Dan 5,137 post(s)

Yeah, the other problem is I’d imagine as the community grows that there will be several with similar handles and could cause confusion. heck, there are 3 wampas aready!

Avatar thehammer 63 post(s)

i am a film maker and made several little quick things for this for my aptly dubbed ‘fightklubtv’ channel for you tube but after checking the fine print of the original agreement yeah you cant use the images in these ways and only 3 on a website, on another post i’ve been bugging decipher for a ‘official’ press kit and word is its coming…

Avatar rhettbutler13 1,423 post(s)

That’s not a bad idea. I made full-sized flyers.

Business cards are a good idea. It would be excellent if say your business card was “The Drop” on one side and the Door with your handle on the other…and it could actually be used in the deck.

Heck, you could make the business card be a sticker with your information that you put on extras from the game that you can give out, put in demo decks etc…

Thought!

One is a complete set. 100 cards from the set, plus 20 extra cards for deckbuilding.

So 3 kilos gets you plenty plenty plenty for deckbuilding.

Well, we’ve already had suggested to us that we use extra deckbuilding cards, plus the extra characters we WILL get from 3 kilos of One, and build “give-away” decks. (it just dawned on me that because of the unique make-up of One, with only characters as rares, that the give-away decks will have no “rare” or “powerful” cards…).

Don’t we get a copy of the Drop with a kilo of One anyways? Now you have two extra Drop cards, and you could easily tape a business card to the back, at the very least. (I would consider going as far as to “sign” my extra Drops with my handle, and let people pass it along, like “here, if you don’t decide to play, give it to someone else!)

Avatar Slick 819 post(s)

I like the idea of writing a name on The Drop. The only problem for me is that I’m a card pack-rat. It takes me forever to get rid of extra cards and when I finally do, I always regret it. I used to have boxes of SWCCG and Pokemon cards and then I finally got rid of them several years ago. I’ve been missing them ever since. :(
