I think some sort of viral marketing campain would be quite effective.

Consider the Alternate Reality Games that have been done for licenses such as Halo, Nine Inch Nails, etc.

The idea is that people all over the world gather clues, hunt for hidden treasures, and communicate on a global scale using cell phones, services like Twitter and Blogger and any other methods imaginable to win a game of mystery that spans across cultural and social boundaries.

I think that it would definitely raise awareness to the game and the community, especially if an ARG were to be crafted based on the ideas suggested by the name Fight Club!

Puzzle Posters- Make it simple, but so someone has to figure it out how to contact you. These can be stapled to any place over a city
Side Walk chalk- This can be used at larger conventions, or days leading to conventions. I don’t think at conventions we should speak openly about it, just if we are approached we should speak about it, but we shouldn’t go out and preach about it.
Signatures in Forums- In other forums just have something that incites curiosity, but doesn’t give it all away.

You’re taking this way too seriously. Someone that just out-and-out at a con says “Hey, check out this game” to people will likely end up signing more people than you. I mean, who in their right mind, that doesn’t know anything about FK I might add, will walk up to you randomly and just ask if you have some kind of secret card game? Maybe if you were playing with someone, but that’s kind of a limited context. Massive harassing countless people-type campaigns, while considerably less fun than your suggestions, would also be undeniably more effective.

I agree with KKND. Just harrass the hell out of people. Eventually someone will get so annoyed that they just might have to check it out!

All the standards. YouTube videos relentlessly being posted, MySpace bulliten spamming, blogging the hell out of every public blog and spam every forum you come across, gameing related or not. Somebody will get the hint eventually.

I like the viral marketing aspect of the game a lot, and the rewards for doing well are a great incentive. But I knew a problem could occur in trying to get the game going locally when I realized that some people will be all about the money and nothing else.
Here’s a problem scenario:
Suppose you start showing the game at your local game stores which probably would have the most interest in new TCGs. Whether you mention the 10% incentive for bringing in new players or not, they would probably find out sooner or later on their own. They get hooked on the idea they could make lots of money, get greedy and purchase a kilo under your handle (Three bucks for you!) and go forth to market it only to find that you and all other local mentors have already passed through and already got those interested to use their handles. He quickly loses interest and never buys anything again (no more three bucks for you).

This may not be a problem in some areas, but I can see this happening in small towns where the only people remotely interested in these games would congregate in the few game and comic shops that there are. Worst case scenario is the game dies almost completely in an area.
How could this be avoided or fixed should it happen?

I don’t see the people losing interest because they can’t get anymore money. Everyone knows different people than you and it is your job to get your friends/acquaintances to play and then they are turn do the same. You alos shouldn’t limit yourself to the card shop crowd, but everyone. I’m sure once the game is rolling you can pull in fans of the partuicular license for the expansion set. I.E. Rambo fans if there is a Rambo card. There should be an almost inexhaustable group of potential players and the 10% is just an extra incentive bonus both for you to spread the word and for others to actually join. I like the obvious viral marketing and I think some of the subtle stuff mixed in could work as well, but I think the direct approach will be better and much easier once we have some cards to show off. To sum up: tell everyone you know!
