what age will you be targetting when you start to market this game.
older, your own age, or younger.
I am 26 and I plan on hitting my peers first, and then hitting up the younger crowd. But then I started thinking, some of these cards may not be recognized by younger generations.
What do you guys think?
this question was influenced by the age survey already posted in the forum.
just curious.

i for one will start talking to all of my friends in high school, (though of course the game comes out around summertime)
after that im hoping to hit up some game stores early with my dad and demo (hopefully we can get in their way so they HAVE to look at what I’m doing.
I also considered walking my sisters around the mall making them give out commons with my handle..
o and forums too. (paintball forums, game forums, whatever i come upon)
...also, im 16 and know about HALF of the characters you guys talk about (thats why i have avoided the heroes and villains topic!!!!)

I’m going to stat with those I go to college with. Maybe get enough to go “infect” the local card shop, and whatever ages go there. (I’ve only ever seen 3 people in there, one was my age, one was a bit younger, and the other was like, a grandmother picking up a stack of 20 some comics, which I think were for her grandson or something like that)

All my friends (all 3 of them) are about the same age as me, so I’ll get them first, then get my Boy Scout troop, then do all the stuff on page 7. And pass out flyers at the mall.

You can still find people alive who are twice your age?! J/K, you’re not that old. (btw, I’m 23.)
Naw, I’ll talk with my friends who are my age first, then whoever I’m around that seems interested.

Boy Scout Troop, now there’s a good one.
Too bad my old troop mostly doesn’t know me. (with there being an age gap below two of my close friends and I, and with me aging out after Eagling before any of them ever joined)
My friend that played LotR with me used to join me for matches on camping trips. The one time we got a 6-man game going, it was with Scouts.

Knowing my luck, I would tell a friend, who tells a second friend. The second friend is young enough that his parents have to buy him the cards. Somehow, mom/dad get offended by the kilos or whatever, and the fact that it’s “not in a real store” or something retarded. Then, they trace it back to me, and I catch hell for it, because the parents are paranoid and not with the information age.

wow, good call AC, how will this game combat people who are not technologically savvy? I heard a rumor from my cousin that not every home in the world has high speed internet!!! gasp!!! can you believe that?? Hopefully we can find a way around this … maybe with connectors or something

Well as I begin to ask my local population for the game I hope you have a wireless laptop with me so they can order directly from me on the spot if they want to.

yeah I keep saying it’d be great if the card stores are online, or if people use the internet on their cells. There are a lot of options if we strategize…

Well, I come from an area where you fall into 1 of 3 categories. The tech-savvy. The non-tech-illiterate (these are people who can preform google searches and create myspace profiles, but don’t know what HTML is). Type 3 is “does not have a computer at home, or does and it’s a Windows 95 with no internet”.
My best friend didn’t get a laptop until he went to college. Because they had no internet at home for him to use it with.
I’m used to dealing with the people who think the internet will immediately steal their credit card number, even when dealing with “safe” stores like Wal-Mart and Amazon.
I personally will try to recruit as much as I can on campus (which is almost entirely wireless) and at the card shop, which I know has a net-capable PC in it, or that very reason. I’ve always wanted an internet-capable phone, and would definitely use it for this if I had one.

Initially I was thinking about hitting up all the gamers I regularly game with and introduce it to them before I went to the community. Usually when one of us gets into something the others follow suit, but I thought a bit more and my plan changed a bit.
I’m intending to get with the other FMs in my area (Hawaii) and meeting with them. There are a few hobby stores on the island and assuming I get cooperation from the other FMs here, we break up and send 1-2 to each of the hobby stores and try and get a demo time to introduce it on a level greater than just a small group. Going to hobby stores means a wide range of ages though mostly the high school arena. It’s easy to get them into something new. I’m 26 currently and I remember playing MTG in high school non-stop when we weren’t in class.
I’ll probably focus on the 15-19 age range, but anyone I can get interested I will obviously get in when I can. I’m thinking I will even offer to order for people who do not have access to means of ordering things online (credit card issues). Though this might not be wise depending on how their ordering system works.

You just made me realize something, slaxer… I dont have a paypal account. I know D had decided that was the method to receive your 10% kickback and now i am wondering if that will be the purchase method also? And if that is the case then wont we get even more headaches from people who dont want to start a paypal account. Also, would we get a kickback from paypal for being the exclusive payment method?

BaronMorrath, it looks like we’ll have quite a few payment options. From the ‘Purchases’ section on the Conditions of Use page:
If you wish to purchase products or services described in this site, you may be asked to supply certain information, including credit card or other payment information either directly with us or through services, including, but not limted to PayPal, Google Checkout, and Amazon Flexible Payment Service, or other services from time to time.
So, if you don’t want to pay directly to Decipher with a credit card, you have several alternative options.
